Client
The client was Jade Aden Interiors. They required mezzanine floor specialists to help install a new structure for their end client – Forest Edge Home Improvements.
Jade Aden Interiors is a leading commercial interior design company. They provide turnkey refurbishment and fit-out services – from design and installation to project management. Businesses go to them for all types of bespoke workspace projects, and they have an extensive track record of working with local and global brands.
Project Brief
The main goal was to expand the work and storage space of the home improvement company. Although they have seen recent rapid and exciting growth, moving premises was not yet an option for the end client, so they turned to Jade Aden to help create an efficient and effective solution within their existing space.
They had already started making use of the vertical space above them with a small mezzanine floor installation.
Jade Aden Interiors focused on expanding what the end client already had in place. However, they needed specialist mezzanine floor experts to provide guidance and solutions that would work best for the mezzanine floor installation.
First Floor’s brief was to expand the mezzanine floor that was in place to provide more floor space above the ground floor for storage.
Project Implementation
The first step of this project was to visit the site to assess what they already had and determine if additional space was available. At this stage, we assessed not only the construction of the existing mezzanine floor but also the additional aspects, such as handrails and staircases. These were likely to need moving, which is why it was important for us to understand how it all fitted together.
We assessed the situation, dimensions, and restrictions. We provided both Jade Aden Interiors and the end client with detailed guidance on how to proceed. Our specialist explained the advantages and concerns around various solutions so that they could make an informed decision that would work for all stakeholders.
We worked closely with Jade Aden Interiors to create detailed designs that specified how this expansion would work, and the materials required.
Once the client and end client were happy with the proposed plan, it was all systems go for the installation of the mezzanine floor.
Throughout the installation process, our team worked around the team at Forest Edge Home Improvements so that they could continue operations. The space was small, so we had an action plan in place which ensured minimal disruption to their team while allowing us to complete our fitting to the highest standard.
Both Jade Aden and Forest Edge Home Improvements were eager for this to be done as soon as possible, so we worked to a very short lead time, completing final site survey, agreeing design, quoting and finishing the installation in a little over a month.
Challenges Faced
From the initial assessment, it was clear that we would be restricted in terms of space available at the end client’s premises. Moreover, Forest Edge Home Improvement wanted to continue operating out of the space to minimise downtime. We accommodated the end client’s wishes – carrying out a careful, coordinated mezzanine floor installation that allowed end client operations to continue.
To achieve this, we put together a plan and time frame to detail who would be working, where and when. This allowed us to overcome the space restrictions so that we could work efficiently and smoothly without disrupting the team at Forest Edge Home Improvement.
Communication was a key aspect of this planning and installation process. Maintaining great communication channels ensured the client and end client were fully on board with scheduling of the mezzanine floor installation.
The Results
The result of our work with Jade Aden Interiors was an expanded floor space on their mezzanine floor with excellent functionality. The new floor allowed the end client to maximise vertical space in their premises, provided desired additional storage and operational capacity.
The ground floor saw less build-up of parts that needed to be stored, creating more space for those working there too.
