Pallet Racking Re-configuration in Poole

Client

Hydreco Hydraulics contacted First Floors for help re-configuring their pallet racking.

Based in Poole, Hydreco Hydraulics installs and maintains hydraulics, pumps, motors & valves for a range of sectors. With a rich history of innovative technology and excellent customer service, they were looking to maintain this by enhancing their in-house processes.

Project Brief

Hydreco Hydraulics were looking to optimise the warehouse layout, by segmenting the space into different sections.

In doing this, they were making the warehouse safer for their employees, while also ensuring an organised and efficient process could be followed.

To achieve this, they needed their pallet racking moved around to fit the new sections.

The company reached out to us at First Floors, because they needed help re-configuring the pallet racking in a safe and professional way.

We had a tight deadline to get the work done so that the company could continue operations.

Our brief was to work with them to create a new layout that made the best use of space and implement that through dismantling and re-building the pallet racking they already had.

Project Implementation

The project began with our team visiting the site several times to scope out the current layout and discuss the best way to approach the project in a safe and logistical manner.

While also on site, we worked with the team at Hydreco Hydraulics to determine a layout for the racking and storage area that would meet their aims and make the best use of their space.

This allowed us to see that, while we would be able to utilise the current pallet racking, mesh and mesh gate, we would also need to supply another new mesh gate to close off a particular storage area.

With a full understanding of the project at hand, we quoted the work. Once the quote had been given the go-ahead, we immediately ordered the additional materials and equipment that would be needed.

We then arranged a convenient date to complete the work. As the client had a tight deadline, we organised an installation as soon as possible.

The project was tackled in several steps:

  • Dismantle the existing pallet racking and partially re-configure it in the discussed layout.
  • Dismantle existing barriers and mesh gates and relocate and re-build them.
  • Install the new mesh gate to secure a specific racking aisle.

Our installation team was flexible with their time, working throughout the weekend to complete the work before the deadline.

Of course, compliance with health and safety for our installers during the work, but also for the client going forward was paramount.

While working, our installation team had to ensure they were adhering to correct safety standards when dismantling and re-building existing materials. This included the safe use of plant and power tools, whilst ensuring that any of the client’s staff were away from the working area.

When reconstructing the racking and mesh, they used their expertise to ensure it met safety standards and complied with racking regulations.

Challenges Faced

The biggest challenge faced with this project was the client’s tight deadline.

It meant we had to ensure the materials were delivered quickly and on time so we could get to work as soon as possible and without delays.

The deadline also meant work needed to be completed over the weekend, so we brought the installers in on the weekend to get the job done.

We were able to overcome this challenge through our excellent relationships with our installation team and suppliers. Our good rapport with everyone we work with enabled us to arrange quick delivery of equipment and materials and out-of-hours work from the installation team to prioritise finishing the job.

The Results

The result was a completely re-configured workhouse with pallet racking and mesh dismantled and re-built to make the most of the space through newly segmented areas and secure aisles where they were needed.

The new layout enhanced the organisation of stores, improved stock consolidation, general safety and created a partially secure and easily manageable storage area for the Hydreco Hydraulics team.

By utilising a lot of existing materials, we were able to ensure cost savings for the client, while also maximising the benefits of the project.
